Celebrating the Stone Icons of Rylstone

The launch to celebrate the completion of the conservation work funded by the Australian Government on three stone churches in Rylstone and the Bridge View Inn complex, and the placement of heritage plaques in Kandos and Rylstone, will be at noon on Friday September 24th in the grounds of the Bridge View Inn. There will a brief official ceremony, entertainment by Rylstone Public School children, followed by a light luncheon for politicians, community representatives, those involved in the restoration and conservation work, and descendants of early pioneers associated with the stone icons of Rylstone.

OPEN BUILDINGS

On Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th September, the three churches where conservation work has been undertaken, the Bridge View Inn and the Cottage Museum will be open from 10 until 3 for public viewing. There will be guided historical walks around Rylstone or visitors and locals can take a self-guided historical walk down the streets to read the plaques on buildings in Kandos and Rylstone. Pick up the brochure for Kandos near the Rotunda and for Rylstone near the Memorial Hall.

Local businesses, many of which have been involved one way or another, will make a special effort over the two days to welcome visitors and provide services.

Rylstone Dog Trial

Organised by the Rylstone Tennis Club. Sheep dog trials show off the skills and training of working dogs - border collies and kelpies - as they push 3 sheep around a set course including gates, ramps and pens in a limited time. Each handler must only use voice commands or whistles to keep their dog under control, and must stand at specified spots on the field. There are 4 categories for competitors: Open, $10 entry; Improver $8 entry; Novice $7 entry; and Encourage $7 entry. Competitors may camp on Friday and Saturday nights. A canteen operates Saturday and Sunday offering a meal Saturday night and a BBQ lunch on Sunday for a small fee. Spectators are welcome both days - free entry.
